IL2 AIR COMBAT! OFFLINE COMPETITION
Y2021 - Week 12 / "GET IT DOWN FROM THERE!"

Petroskoi has fallen, the fighting in northern Carelia and on the Isthmus has died down. Everyone is waiting to see when Moscow will fall, and this war will be over...
Those aircraft you met the other day was a nasty surprise! A compleletly new type, very modern, clearly superior to those old I-153's and I-16's. One of the planes fell on our side of the lines, and Intel people have examined it. They say it's called a MiG... the Germans have already met them. They are dangerous aircraft, so look out.

Today's mission has been assigned to you because you have shown great efficiency in previous missions, and we need a seasoned pilot for a delicate job. The Soviets have placed an observation balloon southeast of Matoksa that is causing us a lot of trouble, you two will have to head there and send it to the ground. Do not stay in the area once your mission is complete, return to base immediately.

Good luck pilots. We have our trust in You. Fly bravely and boldly. We are waiting for you for dinner.

IL2 AIR COMBAT! OFFLINE COMPETITION
Y2021 - Week 13 / STRIKE IN MARINGY

Good morning Gentlemen. Today we have been transferred to a new series of four missions, which are originally based on the great Lightning Strikes Campaign (M4T), whose author is IceFire (calm guys, we have already investigated it with InterPool, it is clean) where we will fly over Normandy with the 367th Fighter Group ( 9th Air Force).

However, whoever has flown this campaign in the past should not expect to find the exact same missions: I have modified, added, corrected, adapted and built on top of what was done, even changing everything at times, so these are new challenges, adapted to the demands and times of this competition. But it could not be otherwise, since the original requirements for this campaign published in 2006 were the following:

"Pacific Fighters Merged installation V3.04m"

Anyway, there goes our recognition and gratitude to the creator of the campaign, as we always do, since the basis of my work is the creativity applied by him more than a decade ago.

Well guys, I see you very relaxed today ... Anyone want a coffee? Please don't ask for sugar, this is war!

Let's get into today's topic, which requires an introduction.
This time we will be operating in Normandy, always from the same airfield, which, like any well-organized airfield, has certain simple rules. Do you remember that graphic where the circuit around an airfield was shown?

We will have to keep this diagram in mind in base operations, especially in landings. The most important thing to take into account is the landing direction, and the place where you will park your plane when the mission is finished, because you should know that the boss wants us to do it well and that we leave the plane under its own camouflage mesh. This speeds things up so your team of mechanics doesn't waste half an hour guessing where you've left your plane.

We will operate from the Airfield Sainte Marie du Mont, at C9.4.
This field has two parking sectors, Sector A, only for single-engine airplanes, and Sector B, where the P-38s and other larger birds rest, and where clearly you must also go. Your parking spot will be marked with a cross on the ground. Review the following diagram to find out where you should park your plane. This applies to all missions for the next four weeks.

Okay. You are now ready for your mission. It is July 24, 1944, and the fighting on the ground is intense, although the Luftwaffe is a bit absent these days. Anyway, do not trust too much that they do not appear.

Your role in this mission: ground attack, in a place that will be indicated to you in the brief (as this information is obviously confidential, it cannot be said here, we do not want the Germans to know where we will attack just by reading in this forum.)

Read the brief carefully, study the route, go and do it!
Good luck and come back healthy!

IL2 AIR COMBAT! OFFLINE COMPETITION
Y2021 - Week 15 / RAILROAD HUNTING

Welcome gentlemen. I was waiting for you. Sit down. I'll briefly introduce you to today's situation chart: The Army is moving toward St. Lo. When the infantry boys get there, they will need all the help we can give them, so that they can drive the Germans out of the city. To achieve this goal, all tactical squadrons on this side of the Channel have been ordered to conduct low-altitude patrols to attack trains and vehicles in the southern areas, to halt German efforts to resupply on the front lines.

Your orders are in the mission brief. Stay away from skirmishes that are developing on the ground to ensure your survival.

Go there and complete your mission before night falls.

***************************
Today's mission comes in two versions, a first version for 4.12.2m & SAS Modact 5.3, and also for BAT BLUE EDGE 4.1.2,
and another specific version for VP Modpack. This is due to the absence and / or replacement of some objects in VP Modopack, which is why the mission must be slightly modified.

Unfortunately, this great version of the game has these minor problems, which force me to edit the missions in a special way just for this version. This had already happened last year with some missions prepared by Otto, which when I flew them in VP Modpack presented difficulties. The main one at that time, the poor lighting of some default maps, at certain times, which constituted a significant difference with the same missions flown in other versions of the game. For this reason, which I have already talked to some members, I will only support VP Modpack in this mission "week 15", and in the next mission of week 16. From week 17 onwards I will not edit missions again at VP Modpack, focusing exclusively on 4.12.2m & SAS Modact 5.3 and BAT BLUE EDGE 4.1.2.

Thanks for your understanding.
Greetings, and good flights to all!

Haukka, I verified my installed version and I have 4.12.2m with Modact 5.30, I should be good going forward beyond mission #17.  :)

IL2 AIR COMBAT! OFFLINE COMPETITION
Y2021 - Week 16 / LIBERATION OF SAINT LO

The Battle of St. Lo has started. Several hundred army units now converge and fight within the city. The 9th has been busy taking the battle to the skies. We haven't seen much of the Luftwaffe and that has given our fighter-bombers a chance to attack enemy formations.

Our job for this mission is to enter St. Lo from the rear and attack any Panzer divisions or enemy vehicles that may be circulating within the city.

IL2 AIR COMBAT! OFFLINE COMPETITION
Y2021 - Week 17 / OPERATION CROSSBOW

Good morning gentlemen!

You thought this was over, right? Well no. Thanks to a couple of birds who did very badly in Saint Lo, all of you will have to thank them for spending another week in Normandy. I know, you like. Anyway, like it or not, this is war, and you won't escape from here. Or would you rather spend a while playing chess in prison, like those two ...

Straight to the point. New reports indicate that the Germans, hit hard in Saint Lo, have recovered and have resumed their attacks with V-1 flying bombs, causing extensive damage in English cities. Yesterday, thanks to one of our secret agents, we were able to discover the location of the camp where these rocket launchers are located.

Your mission, go there and destroy those V-1 bomb launchers. It is a dangerous mission, follow the instructions and you may be able to return home.

Good flight, pilots!

THE RZHEV SALIENT
Hello guys, today we start a new cycle of four missions, which may well be called a mini-campaign. Starting today, we will fly in the frozen Russian steppe of the winter of 1942, and we will put ourselves in the shoes of a German pilot of I./JG 51, the first Fw-190 unit on the eastern front.

These missions are inspired by a couple of campaigns, firstly "I./JG 51 over the Rzhev Salient", a campaign for the IL2 Great Battles, whose author is Juri_JS, and a CzechTexan campaign available on M4T called "Battle for Rzhev - Part 1 ". The missions are fictitious although probable, and are based mainly on the missions of Juri. Obviously, I had to build them from scratch, which for me is great, as I find great pleasure in losing myself within the FMB.

Before entering fully into the first mission of this new adventure, first we are going to make the conditions of the competition very clear, because we are too many people flying, and if we do not agree with the rules of the competition, this runs the risk of getting out of the river.

The conditions of the competition are clear, and were defined by Beowolff in the following post:
https://il2freemodding.createaforum.com/mission-planning-center/mission-of-the-week-planning-center-information/msg8997/#msg8997

Naturally, if you have an accident during takeoff, you are allowed a second chance. But it is not allowed to fly the mission two or three times to see which is the best of all, by now Beo has been very clear. The first attempt is the one that counts towards the competition.

Now let's look at the historical context:

"On the morning of 25 November 1942 the Red Army, commanded by Marshal Zhukov, launched Operation Mars. The aim of the offensive was to encircle and destroy the German Ninth Army in the Rzhev salient. Units of the Western Front's 20th Army crossed the Vazuza River northeast of Sychevka and managed to penetrate the German frontline held by divisions of the XXXIX Panzer Corps. At the same time attacks by the Kalinin Front were launched on the western side of the Rzhev salient in the Belyi and Luchesa River sectors.

Fog and snowy weather limited the activity of both air forces on the first day of the offensive and few sorties were flown. When the weather slightly improved on 26 November, the pilots of I./JG 51 were able to fly their first missions in the threatend sectors of the front. Gruppenkommandeur Hauptmann Heinrich "Gaudi" Krafft was the most successful Focke-Wulf pilot on this day and claimed three Il-2s in a single mission.

I./JG 51, the first Fw-190 unit on the eastern front, had retrained on the new aircraft between early August and the beginning of September 1942 at Jesau in East Prussia, before it was send back to the front. After a short and mostly uneventful stay at Ljuban near Leningrad, the unit transfered to Vyazma in October. Because of lacking enemy activity in the air, initially there were few opportunities for the units pilots to test the new Fw-190 in combat, but the beginning of Operation Mars drastically changed this situation." (Written by Juri_JS).

Now to the point, and we go into the first mission.

Y2021 - Week 22 / PATROL IN KARMANOVO

For the moment the snowfall, that grounded us over the past days, has stopped and we will use the opportunity to fly a patrol mission over the Karmanovo sector. In the vicinity of the town an arm of the Ninth Army is pushing the Russians back to their lines. The primary targets are enemy ground attack aircraft.

Good flight, pilots!

Small observation: To fly these missions, it is highly recommended, although not necessary, the use of mod "Winter Map Effects", by Gumpy. An old mod that can be found with a little research exercise. If you cannot find it, I will pass it on to you privately, but I will not publish links to other IL2 pages other than M4T here.

You have a good day!  ;)

IL2 AIR COMBAT! OFFLINE COMPETITION
Y2021 - Week 23 / AIR SUPPLY

"German counterattacks on 29 November, supported by an armored train, cut off the Soviet troops that had crossed the Sychevka-Rzhev railway line. The Red Army´s relief attempts were greatly hindered by encircled German strongpoints that held out behind the frontline, so it was attempted to finally crush the las pockets of resistance in the rear. The situation eas especially critical for a Panzergrenadier battalion commanded by Major Steiger, that was encircled between the Vazuza and Osuga rivers. Air drops of supplies and close air support by the Luftwaffe allowed the unit to repell all Soviet assaults on their position, till the survivors were able to breack out and reach German lines on 1 December." (Written by Juri_JS).

Today's job will be to escort a pair of Ju-52s that will drop supplies and reinforcements on the position where the troops surrounded by Kampfgruppe Steiger are bravely resisting. Patrol the area between the Vazuza and Osuga rivers at an altitude of 1500m, until the transports have finished their mission. Once they have left the area and there are no enemy combatants in the vicinity, spend your remaining ammunition strafing the Russian troops attacking Steiger's position.

Y2021 - Week 24 / ESCORTING THE "PANZERKNACKER" GUYS

Today's job is to escort Henshel 129 flying low into the hot front. After opening the fence that was closing on our positions last week, now the Russians, repelled to their previous positions, are pressing again from the north. An observation plane has detected a column of tanks moving rapidly to the south, in an area adjacent to the front line. The HS-129s will take care of the tanks. And you will make sure that nobody bothers them.

Good luck in your task!

IL2 AIR COMBAT! OFFLINE COMPETITION
Y2021 - Week 26 / ASSAULT ON LAE

Starting today we will be at the controls of a Mitchell B-25 G-NA bomber, operating off the shores and jungles of Papua, for the next four missions.

These missions will be based on a selection from Stebas's excellent historical Papuan Campaign, although with the necessary modifications to adapt to the demands of this competition.

****************************
First mission, ASSAULT ON LAE

"On May 25, the Allied Air Force went to meet a bad day.
Six B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, belonging to the 13th Bombardment Group - 3rd Bomber Squadron, performed a mission without escort on Lae, with the usual goal of hitting air installations and parked plans in the forward Japanese base.
They managed to lead the attack at low altitude, but then, on the way back they were intercepted and trapped by several Zero, who carried out a continuous and deadly sequence of attacks.
In the battle that followed five B-25s were shot down by the aces of Tainan." Text by Stebas.

Today you have the opportunity to become the only survivor of this story. You will start your flight in the air, heading directly to the Lae aerodrome. You carry 6 bombs of 500lb, that allows you at least three drops. Your main objective is the big hangars. As soon as you have completed your first and only withering attack, run, son, run!

Hit hard and come home!
