Mission results week 09
« on: February 28, 2021, 03:38:22 pm »
Date flown: Feb 28th, 2021
Version used: VpMod Pack 4.12
Results: 5 bombers destroyed, 1000 pts, survived

After Action Report (AAR):

My squadron took off from our home base without incident. We turned north-east as per our orders. We located the enemy bomber formation after roughly 10-12 minutes. There were 15-20 bombers sighted, maybe more. I ordered my squadron to attack the bombers.

I then dove into the enemy formation to make my attack. I hit the bomber on my first pass causing a fuel leak. I then puled up and rolled keeping positive G's on my aircraft then came on the enemy's 6 O'clock. I open fired and the aircraft caught fire at the wing root. I then pulled away any found another target. Again I fired on the wing root and again the enemy bomber caught fire. I repeated this same tactic again and again destroying 5 bombers until I had run out of ammunition.

I then turned for home. As I approached our base I couldn't help but notice that it had been attacked. There was quite a bit of damage and there were numerous fires around the base.

I was able to land safely. A total of three of my flight survived the mission.

My scorecard.

Notes: This was a very good mission. Lots of fun !!! I did record a "mission failure" however. I believe the primary target was selected as the destroying the bombers. My feeling is the primary should be set as landing, giving the time allocation of 1:30. This is more than enough for mission completion. Assign the target of destroying the bombers as secondary. This should solve the mission failure issue. :)

All in all I really enjoyed the mission, well done !!!  :)
Sincerely,
DHumphrey

You have done an excellent mission! In my tests I did not shoot down more than three bombers. Thank you very much for your return, I really do not handle the subject of primary or secondary objectives, and I left it as I found it. Effectively, the primary objective is assigned to a group of bombers. Please, if you can, send me a copy of the mission with the corrections that you propose, so I will better understand how it is done. Again, congratulations on your flight, and thank you for your enthusiastic participation.

Haukka,

Here's the mission with the updated objectives. The primary target is landing at home base, using the "recon" target, set time for 1:30. I set the enemy bomber formations with a "hidden" target set at 25%. I used hidden so that they are "not" viewable on the players map.  :)

Friend, I greatly appreciate your help and goodwill, you are very kind. I will study the fixes to better understand how to apply them in the future. Again thank you very much.

I did something I almost never do: I forgot to retract my undercarriage on takeoff. I flew the entire mission with my gear down. I also flew full-real navigation; I figured that since it was a scramble mission I had less chance of getting lost. Turned to a heading of 40 degrees, after some correction, and soon spotted the incoming bombers, never once noticing the green lights under the compass. Made several low passing-shots, and at least one of which had to have caused some damage to the enemy. I managed to catch up to one bomber after his drop and set his left wing on fire. All the while complaining about how difficult it was to catch him (with my stupid gear still down). I now believe that I was lost. I saw an AI Storch with Finnish markings and followed it into a friendly airfield. It was when I intended to lower my gear that I discovered it had been down all along. So I had to lower it back down, then came in too hot. Being unfamiliar with the plane, I flared to soon, dropped too fast, and broke my undercarriage. I lived, with a meager score of 250, somehow getting a "Mission Complete" message along the way. (?) I'll be sharing a very funny video of the entire adventure, soon.
Clown Out.

Hello Tsiqua, you have done a good mission. Forget the detail of not having raised your landing gear, it has happened to all of us at some time. The important thing is to fly, and also you have been given the complete mission, something that I have not achieved when flying the mission (I will upload my result this Wednesday). If you had fun, the mission is accomplished.
Thanks for participating, friend. I'll wait for that video. Welcome!

Guys, the invitation to participate in this competition is open to everyone. The more we participate, the more fun it will be, and not only for the pilots, but also for the ground crew ... someone has to cook dinner, after all.

Cheer up, you'll like it!

Debrief:
We were in the officers' canteen finishing our breakfast while lazily rambling about a thousand nonsensical things, when the door was abruptly opened. It was our squad leader, who was coming to call us for an urgent job. A ship on the shore, a few tens of kilometers north of here, had detected a large formation of Russian bombers heading this way, towards our base! We wasted no time, we ran to our Fiats, which our mechanics already had ready and with the engine running, we jumped into our cockpits, and took off ... After a few minutes of flight we spotted the enemy formation, there were many ... I thought that It was rare for them to come without a fighter escort, obviously these Russian pilots have very high self-esteem. But so do we. With my pilots, we took a bit of altitude, looking to get on an intercept course at 1 o'clock highs for the first bombers. When they were getting closer, I gave the order to attack; we dive in and start to do our work.

I chose a bomber and attacked him, as soon as he dropped his bomb I abandoned him and went for another, simply seeking to fulfill the order that the boss gave us before taking off: "attack until the bomber drops his bomb" ...

So I attacked several of them, getting three (maybe four bombers) to drop their bomb before reaching their target. We soon flew over our base, which had already been bombed, there were too many bombers to prevent any of them from hitting the target. I chased them for a few minutes still, getting a couple of them to go away with severe fluid leaks. I returned to base and landed with one of my pilots, it was not a very elegant landing, but the plane is whole. The boss was waiting for me in his office, he told me that I share the takedown with the boy who landed with me, and that we prepare for more surprises. I put my fingers to my cap, tapped the heels of my boots, and headed out of there to the canteen. This time coffee and whiskey for me!

Later I will upload a small video to the video section. You have a good day!

Well done to you both Tsisqua and Haukka for surviving the mission. Getting home in one piece is the main thing as well as having fun. I enjoyed watching both of your videos. :) Those bomber tail gunners can be ruthless. One item of note about those Russian bombers, once you set the wing root on fire you can set up on another target. The fire will eventually cause the wing to blow off and the bomber will go down pretty quickly. :)
Sincerely,
DHumphrey

Pilot Name/callsign: Beowolff
Actual Mission Name: Y2021 - Week 09 / BOMBER INTERCEPT

Results/description of mission: Mission Accomplished, Target Complete
Mission Score:  650
Misc. Info if desired: Mission flown in 4.12/5.30
Debrief:

Having a smoke after a bit of food and wine and got the alert of a massive bomber formation inbound.  We all dove for our planes and immediately took off, climbing to altitude and heading for an intercept coordinate.  We soon spotted the inbound bombers and I pulled around and dove onto the tail of one IMMEDIATELY taking brutal tail gunner fire!  B'ah!  I had forgotten how accurate those scum were!  I jinxed about out of their line of fire and dove slightly below them, opening up at point blank range with my guns...those guns ARE weak, but at that range effective anyway.  My target immediately began to smoke and burn and I had barely turned away from him before KA-BLOOIE he exploded!

I bagged a second one in the wing roots and as he burned and lost altitude I forgot him as I bored in on yet another one... this one was cagey, and seemed to dodge my bursts 'just as I would fire'.  I kept with him though and just as I got into a good position I got my second kill notification (the smoker I had let go.)  I went ahead and pumped more hot lead into my third victim and suddenly he lit up all ablaze and a wing snapped off...he was a goner.  I got my 3rd kill notification.  I was at low altitude by then and flew by his smoking crash on the ground...no survivors, they were burning in the hot blaze.  Good!  The scum had recently killed a friend of mine and this was ample payback!

A wounded bomber suddenly flew past me and I whirled to finish him off but alas had no more ammo.  G'ah!  Disheartening!

Anyway, so be it... so I turned for home and landed safely... sadly a 'few' bombers had gotten through and we had some damage to the base and a few of our planes were burning.  Too bad, but I had tried to stop it....  however I did get the Target Complete message so knew that my commanders were okay with my efforts.

Excellent result Beowolff! You gave those intruders a good beating! And also you return home with the plane intact, that's a great mission. You guys must be using some kind of incendiary ammunition to burn airplanes like that; on the other hand, I always receive ordinary bullets, the cheapest ones. What do you offer the gunsmith to receive these benefits? Cigars? Vodka? Come on, tell me, I won't tell anyone... ...

Shhhhhh!  Don't tell!  But I hooked my armorer/gunsmith up with my fat, roly-poly cousin... an argumentative girl with crooked teeth and bad breath to be sure!  :D :D :D

I feel my run of high quality ammo 'must' be coming to a close soon, eh?  :-\

;) ;D
