Mission Results Week 11
« on: March 14, 2021, 03:42:07 pm »

Almost as proud of my flight as I am of myself for remembering that they were there to assist me. Took off to the SE after being quickly briefed that 4 very important bridges were in danger of attack. Met Bombers from slightly above and turned onto them, raking them one at a time until each one turned away. I shot one down, and soon the bridges were safe. Did a quick flyover to ensure our success. The Russian escort fighters decided to attempt revenge, but were reluctant to follow us all back to base. I had one lined up for a shot, but ran out of ammo. Landed safely, with little damage. Movie will appear soon to detail our adventure.

Extraordinary, friend Tsisqua, that's what is called "mission accomplished like in the movies." Thank you for risking your life for the Finnish homeland. And also you come back with all your boys and with all the planes! We cannot be happier! I'll talk with the Boss, you deserve a promotion.  Thank you very much for your flight. ;)

Mission: Week #11
Mission Type: Bomber Intercept / Bridge Protection
Date Flown: 03/14/21
Version: VpMod Act
Results: Survived, Primary/Secondary Mission Success, 2x Enemy Bombers Destroyed, 1x Enemy Fighter Damaged, 600 pts

After Action Review (AAR):

Recieved briefing from the Boss about protecting 4x bridges in sector F-11. I took off with my group without incident. We formed the group and headed for our assigned sector. The briefing stated that enemy Cossack bombers were headed our way. As we approached the sector one of our recon planes, a Gladiator, reported sighting enemy bombers west of F-11. I ordered the group to head for the enemy bombers.

We were at an altitude of 700 meters when we sighted the bombers. I ordered the group to attack. I then dove and intercepted an enemy bomber on his six and opened fire. The bomber's port engine nacelle caught fire. The bomber dropped their bombs and turned back for their home base. I broke off and found another target. I rolled over and made another attack from the six o'clock position. I hit the bomber hard with my guns. I think I killed the pilot as the plane rolled almost immediately crashing into the ground and exploded.

As I pulled up and away from the strickened bomber I saw another aircraft. I did not recognize it. I knew immediately though that it was an enemy aircraft. During our briefing we were told that the enemy had a new fighter and we might see it during this mission. This must have been it. I pulled up into her before she could get her gun sights on me. One thing I noted right away, it was fast, allot faster than I was. We had quite the aerial dance for sometime. I was able to maneuver onto its six ... once. I let go with my guns. I saw my rounds impact on its starboard wing. The enemy fighter turned for home, running from the fight.

I then ordered the group to return to home base. All enemy bombers but one were destroyed. All four bridges we were ordered to protect were left "unharmed". Our group returned home safely.

Note: Haukka this was another very good mission. I really enjoyed the action !!!  :)

I complained about the processing, but I must have watched the pre-completed preview at YT. Actually isn't bad, especially if you can stream at 720p.

Actual Mission Name: Y2021 - Week 11 / PROTECT RAILWAY BRIDGES
Date single mission actually flown: Sunday March 14, 2021
Results/description of mission: Mission Complete
Mission Score: 600 points.
Misc. Info if desired: Mission flown in BAT WAW BLUE EDGE 4.1.2

Debrief:
We took off safely. Simple navigation following the directions. Incredibly, I was so confident that I knew the route, that when I reached the fork of the river in Sanok (E-11.9), instead of following the river on the left, I absentmindedly took the one on the right, skirting Sanok. Apparently I liked the place.

Soon I realized that the landscape was unfamiliar to me, I began to nervously look at the map, the rivers did not coincide, while I was in these tasks, I saw two contacts far away from my nine, and a little further away, two others. .. I turn quickly towards them, while signaling my pilots to attack the bombers.

I put full power on, but I've wasted a lot of time, and the first pair of bombers are heading straight for the bridges. The train driver seems to have realized what was happening, because he accelerated his locomotive to full speed. It was a hell of a race between the Russian twin engines and the locomotive, I was the last one and had no hope of getting there ... I saw the bombs fall a few meters from the rise of the bridge, but they did not explode, so the bridge continued intact. I let those two walk away and took advantage of my position to turn around and go in search of the second pair of bombers. Fortunately I found these two head-on. I attacked from below without success. I and a colleague chased after them, emptying our cannons on them. One of them crashed just across the river, the other fled away smoking.

Soon I saw shots from a fighter, the well-known green tracers. I could see a slender, unknown, very modern fighter attacking our Gladiator observer, who defended very well against Russian attacks. I ordered a rejoin of all fighters, and we immediately went after the attacker. We soon discovered that there were two of them. They were very fast. It was impossible to reach them.

Today has been one of those days when I feel like all the rabbits are escaping me. The boy in the biplane and another of my hunters were ready for when the enemy fighter ran out of power, when that happened my pilots were there to give him love. The Russians decided to move away, one of them badly damaged. We regrouped once more and headed home. All landed safely.

Short descriptive video.

Thanks for your generous comments, Dhumphrey and Bird. It really hasn't been a good flight for me, I got lost like a goose on a golf course and was late for the appointment, although not quite. That situation annoyed me a lot. I survived anyway, and will be able to fly next week. What I liked the most is that you guys enjoyed the mission more than I did, that's my prize. Cheers!

After Action Review:

An alert!  I had to quickly leave my cigar and drink behind and leap into my cockpit and take to the skies on our urgent mission of protecting our bridges from the enemy.  We took off, gained altitude and straight away headed for our patrol area.  Sure enough we quickly spotted the incoming bombers and I ordered our attack.  I hit one bomber with a head-on pass and got him smoking, then spun around nimbly upon his tail dodging his rear gunner fire and broke his wing off (at ultra close range) with my guns.

I got another bomber smoking but lost sight of him as an enemy fighter (one of the new types?) buzzed me and gave me a burst.  I tried to follow him but could not gain on him...he had great speed!  In the mean time one of my fellows must have finished off the bomber I had shot into.  Well, there's kills for all to share, eh?

I swung in behind a bomber heading for a bridge and zig-zagging and jenking and swaying about dodged the gunner fire until very close... with my crosshairs on the cockpit area I opened up with guns blazing and saw the plane literally come apart at the seams from my red hot slugs!

Kill two!

I latched onto another but was again 'out of ammunition!'  This is maddening to have a target rich environment yet not enough bullets to kill them all.  Perhaps my shooting is irregular or just sloppy and I'm wasting ammo?

I sicked my wingman upon him though and he got the kill.  None of the bombers made it through our excellent defenses.  I did loose a man though due to those 'new' enemy fighters...drat them!  We did chase them off though and they left in a big hurry.  We flew on to our base and landed successfully and being low on petrol I taxied up to our fuel storage area for a refill.

All in all a favorable mission and certainly a fun one.  I'm thinking my commander may mention me in a dispatch over this one.

Congrats to E_69 for such excellent work!   ;D

This has been one of the most entertaining missions for me, especially since it is my own idea and I really enjoyed creating it. My fear while building it was that it would be too difficult and impractical, but all of you passed the test, including me. Congratulations Beo for another good mission completed on the base and with objectives clearly achieved.

You've quickly caught up with the missions, good luck on the next mission # 12, the farewell to Finland ...
