After Action Review:
An alert! I had to quickly leave my cigar and drink behind and leap into my cockpit and take to the skies on our urgent mission of protecting our bridges from the enemy. We took off, gained altitude and straight away headed for our patrol area. Sure enough we quickly spotted the incoming bombers and I ordered our attack. I hit one bomber with a head-on pass and got him smoking, then spun around nimbly upon his tail dodging his rear gunner fire and broke his wing off (at ultra close range) with my guns.
I got another bomber smoking but lost sight of him as an enemy fighter (one of the new types?) buzzed me and gave me a burst. I tried to follow him but could not gain on him...he had great speed! In the mean time one of my fellows must have finished off the bomber I had shot into. Well, there's kills for all to share, eh?
I swung in behind a bomber heading for a bridge and zig-zagging and jenking and swaying about dodged the gunner fire until very close... with my crosshairs on the cockpit area I opened up with guns blazing and saw the plane literally come apart at the seams from my red hot slugs!
Kill two!
I latched onto another but was again 'out of ammunition!' This is maddening to have a target rich environment yet not enough bullets to kill them all. Perhaps my shooting is irregular or just sloppy and I'm wasting ammo?
I sicked my wingman upon him though and he got the kill. None of the bombers made it through our excellent defenses. I did loose a man though due to those 'new' enemy fighters...drat them! We did chase them off though and they left in a big hurry. We flew on to our base and landed successfully and being low on petrol I taxied up to our fuel storage area for a refill.
All in all a favorable mission and certainly a fun one. I'm thinking my commander may mention me in a dispatch over this one.
Congrats to E_69 for such excellent work!
