Mission Results Week 12
« on: March 21, 2021, 07:46:29 pm »
Well, who'd have thought that a simple balloon pop would be so scary? My wingman and I were ordered to take down a particularly troublesome observation balloon, one guarded by some serious AA fire. After jinking my way through the flak bursts I sent it to the ground in flames. We headed for the deck to avoid the ground fire and were immediately set upon by a vengeful Russian flying one of the new MiG fighters. My wingman and I managed to turn him away from each other, quite in turn, all the way back to our base where our own AA fire protected us until landing. A film of the entire mission will soon be delivered to HQ, and I expect that my wingman should receive a commendation for his bravery.

NICE!   ;D ;D ;D

You cannot lie, cheat or steal your way to honor.  Honor lies in friendship, trust and loyalty, in truth  when you spit upon those great and wonderful things, you are doomed to a failure of the soul of the worst sort.  You are truly damned.

I'm still having issues with my Photoshop. I've narrowed it down to the Windows update. It seems whatever Microsoft did, the update no longer allows Photoshop 6.0 to open properly. Its been suggested to go back to a restore point that allows the program to work. I'm trying to learn how to do that. :)

Mission: #12
Date Flown: 3/22/21
Version: Vp Modact
Mission Type: Balloon Strike
Mission Results: Survived, Primary mission success, 1x enemy balloon and 1x enemy fighter destroyed

After Action Review (AAR):

We received orders from the Boss that we were to go on a balloon strike mission today. The enemy has a observation balloon that they are using for their artillery. My wingman and I took off without incident and proceeded to the target area. The balloon was heavily protected by enemy flak guns.

I spotted the balloon and made a gun run. I hit the balloon and watched it fall to the ground on fire. As I climbed away, flak hit my plane damaging the rudder. It was no longer working at all. I recalled my wingman and as we were departing the target area an enemy fighter arrived and began to attack. I ordered my wingman to "attack fighters".

I then began to maneuverer my aircraft. The enemy fighter dove in front of me trying to escape my wingman's fire, I pulled the trigger and saw my gun's rounds impact the on the enemy plane. It began to smoke and it was leaking fuel. It also had a noticeable drop in speed. Even with no rudder and using my engine torque, I was able to get in on his six o'clock position. I once again pulled the trigger. The guns fired true and hit the enemy fighter once again, this time setting it on fire.

I followed the enemy fighter from above. The enemy's plane crashed into the wooded area below and exploded. This was an excellent dogfight lasting almost 10 minutes.

My wingman and I returned to our home base. My landing was a bit difficult however as without rudder I could only use my alerions and engine torque to line up on the runway. I was able to land safely, but could only roll off the runway as I could not steer the tail wheel. I had no further damage to the aircraft.

Notes: Haukka this was another excellent mission !!! Action packed. :) The dogfight sequence was quite a challenge without a operational rudder. :)
Sincerely,
DHumphrey

Outstanding, DHumphrey! I was able to alternate between my wingman and myself attacking the fighter in order to get us home. But you were able to lure him in, something which I tried but couldn't do. I am really impressed that you were able to take him down with these little guns and low horsepower! I'm loving the fiat's maneuverability, but hope we get something soon to match these MiGs! They are a terror against the 12.77's!!! Great job, Sir! And let me also say that, E69 . . . this is GREAT fun! Thank you for the work!

Actual Mission Name: Y2021 - Week 12 / "GET IT DOWN FROM THERE!"
Date single mission actually flown: Saturday, February 27, 2021
Mission Score: 310 points.
Misc. Info if desired: Mission flown in VP Modpack
Results/description of mission: Mission Complete

Debrief:
Together with my comrade we left the base after studying the map for a few minutes. We fly low since we left the base, so as not to be detected by spies on bikes. In this way, it was also much easier for us to see the balloon from a distance, like a large soccer ball that seemed to call us. We entered the enemy zone at low flight over the tops of pines and cypresses, which made it difficult for the enemy gunners to work. The balloon went up in flames with a short burst. Now you had to get out of there in a hurry. I flew a few hundred meters to the west, while the boy with me was distracted in the enemy zone. I ordered him a quick rejoin, to which he responded, but I watched him drift north, and then I didn't hear from him anymore. While waiting for the rejoin, I saw a mig pass by, about two hundred meters above my head, and then I just dedicated myself to fighting. Although my plane was inferior to that of my adversary, that was not decisive for the result of the combat. I dedicated myself to climb to secure my energy, while he maneuvered in constant attacks. The G-50 has good maneuverability, which is an excellent aid for making last minute breaks. There was some dangerous and not recommended crossing, I even lost sight of him once, but I did not stop climbing while I was looking for him, until I found him again, and he found me too. I was finally able to get in a position to stalk him enough to make him lose his energy. A gust at the intersection and his engine began to smoke profusely. Shortly after it caught fire and the pilot jumped successfully, falling behind his lines, while his friends from the ground greeted me warmly. I got out of there quickly and went home. My partner remains missing. All land garrisons have been ordered to report any findings in this regard, but no one knows anything about him.

Bird, well done on hitting the objective and getting you and your wingman home, great job. :)

Haukka, good work on your mission as well. Hitting the objective as well as getting that pesky MIG. Well done. :)
Sincerely,
DHumphrey
